Dean Smith Studio Ceramic Bowl / Centrepiece, Metallic and Crystalline Glaze, c2005-2010

$590.00

Award-winning Australian artist Dean Smith has been working in ceramics since he was a teenager, and has exhibited throughout Australia and overseas. His work is held in various public collections including international Australian Consulates, various Council offices, and the WA Premier's office. Smith began experimenting with crystalline glazes under Master Potter Ted Secombe in Queensland. When Smith moved to Castlemaine, Victoria he lived opposite an historic gold mine and became fascinated with the geological environment and machine relics, which provided further inspiration for his work.

This fabulous bowl combines Smith's mastery of crystalline glazes and his fascination with metallic surfaces and geological forms. The interior features a stunning combination of deep blue and creamy-yellow crystalline formations, which seem to arise from a very deep blue, almost black, central pool. The upper section of the exterior resembles an ancient riveted metallic vessel, which sits above a bronze-like under glaze with golden drip overlay. Smith has included two pyrite handles to complete the effect. The masterful fusion of a delicate ceramic interior with a rustic metallicised exterior is captivating and superbly intriguing.

This piece is in excellent condition.

Please note dimensions carefully as it is often difficult to represent sizes accurately in photographs. This is a large piece, so the size and weight are factored into the postage.
