This solid silver gilt commemorative egg is by world-renowned gold- and silver-smith Stuart Devlin.
Formally trained in Melbourne, Devlin rose to fame in 1964 when he was appointed to design the decimal currency for Australia and went on to design coinage for countries around the world.
After moving to London in 1965 he began to develop his own style and techniques to create limited editions of fine silver objects, often with textures and filigree detailing. He was commissioned to produce objects for major companies, as well as commemorative coins, including for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
In 1982 Devlin was appointed as Goldsmith and Jewellery Maker to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and was also appointed to the Order of Australia, as well as receiving multiple design awards.
This stunning commemorative egg was designed to celebrate HRH Queen Elizabeth IIs Silver Jubilee in 1977. The egg is decorated with various floral and Royal motifs including the English rose, Scottish Thistle, and Irish Shamrock, and is engraved around the rim “Silver Jubilee 1952 – 1977”.
